Project Overview – Indian Sandstone Patio with Wooden Sleeper Beds and Brindle Paving

This project involved the transformation of an unused and uneven garden area into a stunning and functional autumn brown Indian sandstone patio with integrated steps. The client desired a patio that would enhance their outdoor living space, providing a durable and aesthetically pleasing area for relaxation and entertainment. The installation included the use of high-quality autumn brown Indian sandstone, known for its natural beauty and durability, along with carefully constructed steps to ensure easy access and a seamless transition between different levels of the garden.

Before and After Comparison

Before:

• The garden area was uneven and overgrown, with no defined outdoor living space.
• The existing ground was unsuitable for outdoor activities, with poor drainage and no clear purpose.
• The space lacked visual appeal and did not complement the property’s overall aesthetics.
• There was no safe or functional access between different levels of the garden.

After:

Materials Used

1. Autumn Brown Indian Sandstone:
   • Chosen for its natural beauty, durability, and ability to blend with the surrounding environment.
2. Sub-Base:
   • Provided a solid and stable foundation for the patio and steps.
3. Sharp Sand Bedding Layer:
   • Ensured even laying of the stones and long-term stability.

Construction Stages

1. Site Preparation & Excavation
   • Cleared the overgrown vegetation and removed any debris from the area.
   • Excavated the site to the required depth, ensuring a solid foundation for the patio and steps.
2. Sub-Base Installation
   • Laid a high-quality MOT Type 1 stone base and compacted it to provide a stable and durable foundation.
3. Step Construction & Drainage Installation
   • Built the steps using the same Autumn Brown Indian Stone, ensuring they were safe, stable, and complemented the patio design.
   • Installed drainage solutions to manage surface water effectively and prevent pooling.
4. Laying the Bedding Layer
   • Spread a layer of sharp sand, screeded to create a level surface for the stone installation.
5. Stone Installation
   • Carefully laid the Autumn Brown Indian Stone in a natural pattern, ensuring even spacing and alignment.
   • Integrated the steps seamlessly with the patio for a cohesive design.
6. Jointing & Compaction
   • Applied jointing material to secure the stones and prevent movement.
   • Compacted the surface to ensure a firm and stable finish.
