Project Overview – Block Paved Driveway in Bury

This project involved the transformation of an old, worn driveway into a stunning block paved driveway. Marshalls charcoal blocks were laid in a herringbone pattern and this was complemented by a light grey border, as well as an ACO drainage system to allow effective drainage. The goal was to create a durable and visually appealing driveway that enhanced the property’s kerb appeal.

Before and After Comparison

Before:

• The original driveway was outdated, with cracked and uneven paving that took away from the property’s appearance.
• Weeds were growing between the cracks, and the surface was a potential trip hazard.
• Drainage issues were evident, with water pooling in certain areas.

After:

• The driveway was replaced with a clean, modern block paved surface, providing style and strength.
• A light grey border added definition and boosted the aesthetic design.
• An ACO drainage system was installed to ensure effective water management.

Materials Used

1. Charcoal Block Paving:
   • Chosen for its durability and sleek, modern look.
   • Herringbone pattern boosts strength and resistance to movement under heavy loads.
2. Light Grey Border Blocks:
   • Used to frame the driveway and create a striking contrast with the charcoal paving.
3. ACO Drainage System:
   • Installed to prevent water pooling and manage surface water.
   • Ensured compliance with drainage regulations.
4. Sub-Base Materials:
   • A compacted sub-base of crushed stone for a stable foundation.
   • Sharp sand for leveling and to create a smooth surface for laying the blocks.

Construction Stages

1. Site Preparation:
   • Removed the old driveway surface, including debris and weeds.
   • Excavated the area to the required depth to allow for the new sub-base and paving layers.
2. Sub-Base Installation:
   • Laid a compacted sub-base of crushed stone to provide a solid foundation.
   • Spread and leveled sharp sand over the sub-base to prepare for the block paving.
3. Drainage Installation:
   • Installed an ACO drain system along the edge of the driveway to collect and channel rainwater.
   • Ensured the drains were positioned and connected properly for maximum efficiency
4. Block Paving Installation:
   • Laid blocks in a herringbone pattern, ensuring a tight and secure fit.
   • Added a light grey border around the edges for a neat and professional finish
5. Jointing and Compaction:
   • Brushed kiln-dried sand into the joints to lock the the blocks into place.
   • Compacted the entire surface to ensure stability and a level finish.
6. Finishing Touches:
   • Cleaned the entire driveway to remove debris and dust, revealing the pristine new surface.
   • Conducted a final inspection to ensure all aspects of the project met the highest standards.
