Overall, the process of driveway installation can take 3-5 days, however this largely depends on how long it takes for the driveway to completely dry and the amount of space which is being filled with concrete. As expected, the larger the driveway, the longer the process is likely to take. Although we always recommend that people consult a profession when it comes to laying concrete, we think that the customer should always be kept in the loop. Here is part two of our two part blog series on the concrete driveway process…
- After the driveway preparation is completed and the concrete has been poured four inches thick, a colour hardener is added and evenly spread across the wet concrete. After this, it is smoothed out in order to harden and colour the mixture.
- Next the chosen rubber mat imprints are added to the surface in order to achieve the pattern which is desired by the client.
- The driveway process doesn’t finish here! Following this, the shuttering which was put in place during the preparation stage is removed and expansion joints are cut in the correct places. After this, the driveway is washed and left to dry.
- The concrete will take anywhere from 24 to 72 hours to completely dry depending on the weather. It is important that the concrete dries completely and that during wet conditions such as heavy rainfall, it is given extra time to dry if necessary.
- Finally, when the driveway has been confirmed as dry, a colour matching silicone is added to the expansion joints that were cut earlier on and a sealant that contains a slip resistant is added to the surface.
